From the showtime, Lucifer calls him "Detective Douche". Dan deeply disapproves of Friction match, whom he sees every bit a dissolute and shady gild owner, objecting to his relationship with Chloe and Trixie. One time Dan and Chloe finalize their divorce, however, he tends to pull back from his distrust of Lucifer, realizing Friction match will always protect Chloe. Dan and Match eventually developed a working relationship.

Their relationship, yet, reached its worst signal afterwards Charlotte'due south death. Dan blames Lucifer for her expiry afterward he revealed he knew that Pierce was the Sinnerman but did not tell anyone. The blame is unreasonable, and Match points information technology out, but Dan prefers it to blaming himself. Match, having developed a friendly relationship with both Dan and Charlotte, felt 18-carat sympathy for Dan'due south ache, but he was visibly affected when Dan angrily told him he would ever screw upwardly existence adept. Though Dan bankrupt downwards after seeing Match'southward devil face and tried to impale him, Lucifer, though annoyed, never actually held it confronting him. Match shows genuine concern when Dan was briefly blown up by God, and then immediately resurrected, quick to face up his begetter over it, and worrying over the effects it could take on Dan.

When Dan is later murdered, Lucifer is genuinely grief stricken by his decease, and hoped that he was currently enjoying Heaven, just to learn to his dismay that Dan was in Hell, saying angrily that Dan did non deserve to exist in Hell. Despite their spotty relationship, it is shown Match ultimately came to develop genuine care for Dan and considered him a friend. Dan's death would exist the reason why he decides to become the new God "for the right reasons" in club to both save Dan from Hell and ensure what happened to him didn't happen to anyone else. He was furious when he learned Michael was responsible. Lucifer struggled with telling Chloe that Dan was in Hell, and was visibly upset and reluctant to say it, begging Chloe to not make him accept to. After Dan's funeral, he and Maze, tracked downward and destroyed the mercs who had killed Dan. Maze killed near of them but Lucifer trapped Vincent Le Mec in what is revealed to be essentially a living Hell loop.

In Hell, Match orders his demons non to torture Dan, pulls Dan out of his Hell loop and instead sets upwardly Belios as his friend'south ping-pong partner. Friction match frequently visits Dan in Hell and attempts to help him overcome his guilt and attain Heaven, but he refuses to intervene directly and simply deliver Dan's soul to Heaven as that would exist breaking free will, fifty-fifty if it is only Dan's subconscious that was keeping him in Hell.

He is and so shocked to acquire that Lucifer could have merely flown him to Earth the entire time, and Dan appears to betray Lucifer once again, merely once on Earth he attempts to warn his friend of the danger, only to go stuck equally a ghost. Dan is shown to believe that his betrayal of Lucifer is the regret that was keeping him in Hell, and that by saving Lucifer'south life, he has alleviated the guilt, only he proves to be incorrect about this. Dan and Amenadiel are both unable to understand why Lucifer didn't simply return Dan to Globe every bit Rory did, but after seeing his family and existence unable to interact with them, Dan finally understands that Lucifer was doing him a favor past keeping him in Hell, because Friction match knew that being on Globe as a ghost unable to interact with his loved ones is an even worse fate.
